I was a competitive marathon runner often finishing marathons as first place female before the birth of my daughter by c-section 27 years ago. I ran during my un eventful pregnancy but well within the recommended guidelines. I resumed running 6 weeks post partum and ran faster times than prior to my pregnancy.

Then things began to change. I’m not sure if my foot drag developed after a fall on my tailbone in icy conditions or was a result of the c-section. Maybe I was compensating but unaware. I underwent a series of tests 2 years after my daughters birth and was diagnosed with a mild spinal stenosis. I continued to run but not at a competitive level. Over the years my condition worsened and eventually it was difficult to even walk.

To compound matters 4 years ago I was involved in a near fatal head on motor vehicle accident with a dump truck, breaking the leg that I had so many problems with and crushing the foot that I had been dragging. However, these injuries did heal but I was still left with my previous movement disorder. I have seen orthopaedic surgeons, osteopaths, physiotherapists, massage therapists, cranial sacral specialists seeking a solution. Some treatments have offered a placebo but nothing has permanently fixed me!

Recently, I came to the conclusion that I had to re pattern my brain to learn how to walk and run correctly. Fortunately, I came across this wonderful web page that broke down each step on how to regain control of correct movements. No one had shown me this before. Tom’s web page has provided me with a wealth of information that is helping me to learn to walk correctly. Tom, since I have been following your instructions my posture has changed and I’m reconnecting with my feet. I know that soon I will be able to walk without thinking about each step!

Thank you, Tom.
